Many doctors will tell you now that colitis is not diet related. Obviously if you are reading this article titled “Diet For Colitis” you don’t believe that or you’re trying to figure out what to do and explore every option.
My name is Rachel Hohlweg and my father Mike Hohlweg is the author of the book Colitis Pain Free Foods. Let me start by saying that he has helped tens of thousands of clients through digestive disorders including various forms of colitis for over a decade with incredible client feedback and testimonials.
I’d like to take just a moment to explain the theory his program is based on. Whether you choose to try his diet for colitis or not is up to you.
When Mike was in his adolescent years old he was suffering from a serious digestive issue. When he turned 19 he decided to travel for a bit and ended up living in Hong Kong for 2 years. While he was there his digestive symptoms went away. When he returned to the USA, his symptoms returned. While he didn’t develop his diet for colitis until years later, this change in his digestive symptom function led him to believe that it must have been the way of eating while he traveled that changed how he felt.
Mike realized that certain foods were causing all the issues. After trial, error and years of testing, Mike discovered that with the exception of a few “trigger foods” people with colitis could eat almost anything they wanted if they followed a few rules.
He developed the Catalyst Food Avoidance method. Meaning that when certain foods are mixed together, your body has an inappropriate response to them. It can’t digest the food with enzymes released from the pancreas so it produces excess stomach acid for digestion. This excess acid washing through your digestive tract for years can slowly deteriorate the protective mucosal lining of the digestive tract and colon, leading to colitis.
Mike’s diet for colitis lays out which food combinations are safe and which are to be avoided. They have a tea that helps reduce inflammation quickly as well so as you follow the food grouping you are able to combat symptoms.
I have worked with my dad (Mike) for several years and personally coached thousands of clients on the phone and via email on how to follow his catalyst food avoidance program. I have done countless studies of food diaries and eating habits from clients and can personally attest to what our clients report about us. We receive thank you mail on a daily basis and help people reclaim their lives.
